Is it real care?

Can peptide treatment be legitimate?

There is no useful blanket yes or no.

Fact file: .

In brief

In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) handles the review of medicines.

Some peptides are established medicines; the word alone says nothing about a product’s legal position.

Separate the medicine from the service. Both need clear answers.

A compounded medicine is made for a particular order instead of being supplied as the manufacturer’s finished drug.

Ask which medicine is proposed

As of September 26, 2026, FDA approval covered semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy); neither BPC-157 nor ipamorelin had an approved U.S. product.

The absence of an approval record leaves a separate question open: can the medicine legally be compounded?

As of September 26, 2026, federal law allowed medicines made to order under separate pharmacy and facility rules, when all the conditions were met.

Ask what prevents a product with approval from meeting your medical need, then ask which rules permit the proposed preparation. Read the made-to-order medicine page for those checks.

Ask for a plain explanation of the product’s status. A general claim about “peptides” leaves the main question open.

A prescription is part of care

Under federal law as reviewed on September 26, 2026, a prescription medicine required an order from a health professional licensed to prescribe it.

As of September 26, 2026, a first prescription visit could be online for a medicine outside the controlled-drug group: federal law did not require a first visit in person. State rules and the care needed could still require an in-person visit.

A controlled drug is one subject to extra restrictions because of misuse concerns. Do not assume a rule for that group describes every medicine.

Check records, not a slogan

A state medical board’s public records show the status of a doctor’s licence and board penalties, with the level of detail differing between states.

Even a public record with no penalties cannot establish the quality of someone’s care.

Use the record alongside questions about the proposed treatment, the pharmacy and the follow-up plan.
