In brief
As of September 26, 2026, states set differing rules for online prescribing and the start of a care relationship.
Give the service your expected location for the appointment. Ask which rules and permissions cover that location.
A form can be treated differently
Under Idaho law reviewed on September 26, 2026, a fixed online form with a set of answers was not enough on its own to justify treatment or a prescription.
California law reviewed on September 26, 2026 allowed an examination through an online form without a live call, but only if the person assessing the patient could still provide the care the situation required.
These are examples of variation, not a survey of every state.
Ask: “Can the person assessing me ask more questions, and how will you decide if I need a call or an examination in person?” The answer must fit the rules where you are, not just where the service is based.
Check where the medicine is going
As of September 26, 2026, shipping medicine into most states required a pharmacy based in another state to hold the destination state’s licence or permit.
Ask which pharmacy will send the product and which state record covers the shipment. The prescriber and pharmacy checks are separate.
Ask before a change of location
If you plan to travel or move, ask how later visits and deliveries would work. Give the service your expected location instead of assuming the original answer still applies.
Save the answer alongside your appointment notes. If it is unclear, return to the licensing question before arranging further care.
